The Great Pyrenees makes an excellent LGD if the genetics are
there and they raised and cared for correctly. We are pleased
with the abilities our Pyr's have demonstrated - as they are true to
the nature of the Great Pyrenees as an LGD. We are blessed to have a landrace line of Great
Pyrenees we work with; and we have worked with these lines for 30+ years.
With our Great Pyrenees we never chose to breed for the color, but workability,
function, the ability to trust the dogs with the stock, be it fowl or hoofed,
from the start, Not waiting until they are "2 or 3" or more for this. We coined the phrase "total immersion" years ago,
which means they are born and raised with the stock and never removed, which
is the way we have raised them since the start. The rumor and innuendo
you hear about the Great Pyrenees we have found to be false, from "roaming"
or "Constant" barking and much more, we
speak about it here on this page just click the link.
In
the past 30ish years we have worked with these dogs, our first priority has
always been functionality in temperament and structure as a soundness of mind and body
in a dog is needed to make an excellent LGD/ Livestock Guardian Dog. Over the years, as we retained dogs, we didn't toss away or hide the color,
it wasn't a focus, but we didn't view it as a detriment either. So now, due to
this, we are seeing exciting things manifest within our lines. You can
see here on this page The Colors We Are Seeing,
what we have been blessed with in our LGDs.
